2 - The Gospel in Action!

In Part 1 of this Bible study, we learned what the gospel is. And we learned that we must obey the gospel just as Peter instructed in Acts 2:38.

The Gospel is...

  1. Death
  2. Burial
  3. Resurrection

Acts 2:38 says to...

  1. Repent
  2. Be baptized
  3. Receive the Holy Ghost

We see the gospel in action in the book of Acts. Through the apostles’ preaching, God used the gospel to save people from their sins. Let’s take a look at how they did it in the Bible.

The people of Samaria

Read Acts 8:5-17

  1. The people of Samaria turned away from their sorcery and idol worship and obeyed the preaching of Phillip. (verses 9-12)
Turning away from sin is called REPENTANCE.
  2. When they believed they were all BAPTIZED. (verse 12)
They got baptized in the name of the LORD JESUS. (verse 16)
  3. Peter and John laid hands on the people and they received the HOLY GHOST. (verse 17)

Cornelius

Read Acts 10:1-6, 42-48, 11:13-18

  • The angel told Cornelius to send for Peter who would tell him how he and all his house would be SAVED. (10:1-6, 11:13-14)
  1. While Peter was preaching, the HOLY GHOST fell on Cornelius and his family. (10:42-44, 11:15)
The Jews who were there knew that Cornelius and his family had received the Holy Ghost because they heard them SPEAK with TONGUES. (10:45-46)
  2. Then Peter commanded them to be BAPTIZED in the name of the LORD. (10:47-48)
  3. The Jews who heard this story understood that if the gentiles had received the Holy Ghost and been baptized, they had obviously experienced REPEANTANCE unto life. (11:18)

Disciples at Ephesus

Read Acts 19:1-6

  1. These people had already been baptized unto John’s baptism which was the baptism of REPENTANCE. (verses 1-4)
However, Paul discovered that even though these men had repented, they had not yet obeyed all of the gospel.
  2. They all got BAPTIZED in the name of the LORD JESUS. (verse 5)
  3. When Paul had laid his hands on them, they received the HOLY GHOST.
When they received the Holy Ghost they SPOKE with TONGUES and prophesied. (verse 6)

Galatians 1:8 says, “But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.”

The same gospel that was preached in those days is the same gospel that will save you and me!!
